Loved Regardless.
I want to expand on some of my ideas from yesterday. My last sentence for one. I really don't like it and find it annoying, but I think it's true. We are not intended to be supercomputers. This reminder is especially relevant in our technological age of idealizing processing power and other technical milestones. There are a lot of parallels between the human body and computers. Just because we are similar does not mean we uphold the same purpose. Humans are not hammers. In other words, we should not hold ourselves to the same standards as the tools we use for very specific purposes. Individuals are complicated and have a plethora of varying skills, abilities, and giftings that make each person's experience on earth unique.
If we look at it from a Christian perspective, we are made in the image of God, and we are loved by God. In my mind, that means we are loved regardless of what we achieve or believe. It's a constant that doesn't change. I also think that from that love we can find our purpose and direction in life, unlike inanimate tools. I say this while also struggling with purpose and direction from a young age. The big questions of who you are and what you are here to do weigh on me heavily, even into my thirties. Everything I try seems like an awkward fit; however, I hold tightly to the knowledge that I am loved, regardless of the things I achieve in this world. If I can orient my life to reflect divine goodness, truth, and beauty to others, then I'm doing enough. It's when I lose sight of loving my neighbour or my enemy that it's easy to resort to my computer brain and focus on the inhuman attributes of efficiency and convenience. When I stop loving others as myself, life becomes cloudy and dark, and it happens when we stop carrying Christ's easy yoke that he invites us into. The burdens of the world are not ours to uphold alone or solve with our 'brilliant computer brains,' they are there for us to witness and step into together. In the healthy times, I think the Christian community does this best.
