Leaves Contribute.
The early frost of the winter adorns everything in microcrystals, transforming mundane subjects into spectacles. Each year I make my calendar, where I attempt to have leaves on the cover. The leaves of a deciduous tree are essential but so fleeting, and most coniferous trees are continuously shedding their needles. The annual contributions to the plant's growth go overlooked when considering leaves. And the trees begin to grow new ones once the warmth of the spring sun awakens them from hibernation. New growth emerges to aid the tree, and the previous years lay decaying on the forest floor. They now contribute by feeding fungi and sheltering insects.
