Invest in Community.
It is my last week at BGC Yukon (Boys & Girls Club). While living in Whitehorse, I have had great fortune with employment. First, I freelanced with graphic design and photography assisting, then I was a Teacher on Call, which eventually turned into a full-time Educational Assistant role. Then in February, I moved to the current position I'm in as a Program Manager of afterschool programming for ages 6-11. I have encountered many challenges but have learned and met fantastic people. The experience I have gleaned from coworkers and from working with youth is what I treasure from our time here. I am confident in my skills of working with almost anyone and aim to continue sharing my talents with the next region I reside.
Spending these years developing personally and professionally is uncomfortable, but I hope it sets a reliable foundation to aid me as I age. Inevitably, hardships will continue to arise and realigning will occur if my aim is unwavering. My goal is to help provide basic needs for my community. Ideally, that will take the form of food production. However, the need for young folks and people, in general, to feel cared for is prevalent in our isolated society. In addition to growing sustenance, I want to accommodate spaces people feel spiritually and relationally nurtured.
Thank you all for joining me on this path of exploring what genuine community can look like in our modern, complicated context.
